Roger Smith

My passion is to introduce young people to angling and to develop their angling skills, plus the science involved.

Born in Nottinghamshire I have had a keen interest in fishing since childhood. As a science graduate I was employed in the marketing of educational equipment in schools and ran workshops and exhibitions.
Qualifications include: Angling Trust Coach Level 2; Single handed fly casting qualifications at SGAIC, GAIA and AAPGAI Professional level.

In the past I have worked with various Solway River Boards /Angling clubs to assist in delivering club days, children’s angling taster days and to partner the running of ”Young Anglers Clubs”. I was on the Borderlines team for its final 3 years, an organisation led by top game angling instructors that introduced over 24,000 youngsters to fishing over 25 years.

For the future I have committed myself to aid Michael Fearns and the River Annan District Salmon Fisheries Board to deliver a first class Youth Angling Development Program within the River Annan catchment named “ Positivity Through Angling”. We offer all types of fishing with fly fishing being the preferred option for many of our young anglers.

If you are interested in what we do and to aid you in your coaching/ fly casting journey, we can arrange an invite to one of our sessions. If you then require to get further coaching/fly casting experience, then Michael and I will assess how we can all mutually move forward on a voluntary basis.
